Great Ways To Attract New Customers To Your Business

To be successful, it's imperative that customer service be a top priority for any business. (Remember the old saying: “If you don’t take care of your customer, somebody else will”.)

But you need to recruit customers in order to serve them. What can your business do to attract new customers?

Below are several ways to help customers find and choose your business:

Three Ways To Share Your Company With Customers:

1. Get Visible

  • Join a Local Business Association--Many communities and neighborhoods have business associations. Get your business known by becoming a familiar face in your community. Customers prefer doing business with people they know and trust.

  • Volunteer at and/or Sponsor Community Based Events--Promote your business by supporting or sponsoring community-based events. Make sure your company is represented in the event's advertising and signage.

  • Donate Your Products or Services--Donating products or services to a local event or charity can get your business in front of hundreds or even thousands of local customers. Seek out opportunities for your business to give back to your community.

2. Get the Word Out

  • Write and Send Out Press Releases--Using press releases is an excellent way to establish your business in its area of expertise or industry. Press Releases can also be a valuable means of free publicity.

  • Offer Discounts to Current Customers for Referrals--Word-of-mouth promotion is not only the most genuine form of advertising, it's also the least expensive. When your current customers give sincere testimonials to their friends and associates, your business is likely to reap the reward of new client referrals. Offering incentives to your customers can help inspire them to continuously refer the benefits of your business to potential clients.

  • Write Informational Articles--Writing informational pieces on topics that are relevant to your customers is relatively easy since your experience should already make you an expert in your industry. Just make sure to craft a piece that is informative, useful and timely. Once you have written your article, submit it to publications that have an interest in the topic. Associations and consumer education web sites are great resources for such articles.

3. Offer Incentives

  • Offer Discounted Rates for New Customers--For service-based businesses, offering discounted rates to first time customers is an effective means of letting them try out your products or services. Once customers have experienced how beneficial it is to work with you, they'll become clients—and refer other potential customers to do the same.

  • Sales and Free Gifts with Purchase--Sales promotions or free gifts are another good way to get customers in the door for the first or second or third time. New customers tend to be more comfortable trying out new things when they are discounted. Also, everyone likes receiving a gift or some other form of perceived value, no-cost item.
