Safeguarding Your Data Is Crucial For Your Business Survival

No computer is capable of 100% operating time. The computer components most susceptible to failure are drive mechanisms and power supplies. But, component failure only one issue facing the equipment owner.

Power loss at an inopportune time can corrupt files or cause the loss of unsaved data. As such, all production level systems, especially those that house mission critical information, should have some form of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) attached and should have regular maintenance plans and schedules in place to insure maximum uptime and reliability.

It is in every computer owner’s best interest to safeguard their data through scheduled backup and UPS protection, especially if it is information that is considered invaluable. And what information isn’t?

There is no need to spend an elaborate amount of money safeguarding the critical information stored on today's computers. Microsoft Windows operating systems offer some form of standard backup solution for every PC computer owner. The backup utility programs that are provided with today's Windows operating systems are robust and intuitive. They allow a computer owner to make backups of data, right down to the file level, in order to protect their critical information. These programs provide the opportunity to backup to disk, tape, and if available, a CD. They even allow for scheduled backups to occur at a time that is convenient for the end-user.

In the area of power management, UPS systems are now less expensive and easier to connect and maintain than ever before. Even systems that allow connection to the computer to provide orderly shutdown are available at prices well below one-hundred dollars. These systems range from single desktop installation protection up to large systems that protect server installations and beyond.

With all of the free or inexpensive tools available in the marketplace for today's computer owner, there is no longer any reason you should ever permanently lose critical data. Every serious business owner must make the safeguarding of critical company data an essential part of daily operations.

Computers are imperfect, and people imperfect. If you do not have a backup copy of your data, you are flirting with disaster. You can always get hardware fixed or replaced, but you will never be able to replace lost data unless you have a backup copy.
