Reduce Your Liability By Tracking Speed

Speeding by company drivers places your business in a precarious position.

A big advantage of the FleetBoss System is its ability to identify problems in your fleet and pinpoint where items of liablility are occurring.

Excessive speed is something companies are powerless to monitor or control without a quality GPS system and the software to properly measure it. There are systems that may identify speeding but when you sit down to discuss a speeding problem with a driver you need to have the whole picture in front of you. That's the FleetBoss Difference.

Tracking Speed During Unauthorized Use:
Two employees, Mr. Bishoff and Mr. Marshall have been using company vehicles for personal business on Sun 7-20-04. Mr. Marshall may have moved his truck in his drive since his max speed is less than 5 MPH while Mr. Bishoff had been up to nearly 80 MPH on a day the vehicles were not to be driven.

A FleetBoss productivity report on the 20th shows exactly where the vehicle was used. This report also reveals how long the vehicle has been in unauthorized use.

Now that we have the speed and the date, we can open a Productivity Report and drill down to the actual time and location of the speeding violation. From the Control Screen, we will select a Productivity Report on Johan Bishoff for the date 7-26-04. This report will display Bishoff's entire day of activity.

Because FleetBoss software allows you to set an alert to highlight speeds in excess of 75 MPH, our report automatically highlighted the 82 MPH on Bishoff's 2nd trip of the day to Ruby Street in Sanford, FL The plus (+) mark at the far left of the row indicates that a breadcrumb trail of the trip was recorded.

By left clicking on the (+) mark at the left of the row, the recorded breadcrumb trail will be displayed in the rows immediately below the trip line.

We can now scan down the breadcrumbs until we locate the 82 MPH. By left clicking on the speed recorded, we can map zoom into the actual point that the speed was recorded. In this case it was on I-4 in Deltona, FL. (see Screenshot 2)

How a company deals with this driver unauthorized use/speeding violation is a matter of preference. However, if an employer wishes to discuss the issue with his driver, FleetBoss graphs will offer facts that no violator can dispute.

Speeding by company drivers not only places a business in a precarious liability position but has a negative effect on the public on the highway and the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. Excessive speed can truly harm your bottom line.
