GPS Tracking Is A Billion Dollar Industry

The following excerpts are from a recent interview with Clif Whelchel, VP of Dealer Recruitment and Development for FleetBoss Global Positioning Solutions:

Q: By way of background, lets start with your perspective on the state of the GPS industry. You were there at the founding of FleetBoss in 1998, over eight years ago. You've seen the GPS Industry evolve and grow over that time. What are your thoughts about the condition and potential of this industry today?

A: The GPS industry has experienced tremendous expansion since 1998, both in terms of customer recognition of its value and the business usage of this technology for improving a company's bottom line. Just last year, in 2005, the GPS industry generated over $5 billion in sales revenue. That revenue figure is expected jump above $11 billion by 2010. These figures are impressive but, it's amazing to consider that they represent only a tiny fraction of the potential GPS market. In the U.S. commercial marketplace of 17,000+ fleets, there are a total of more than 3.2 million service vehicles and trucks. Less than 10% of these fleet vehicles are currently equipped with GPS devices.

Q: As a leader in the GPS tracking industry, FleetBoss has generated millions of dollars in savings and revenue for its 5,000 plus clients, both in the U.S. and abroad. How has FleetBoss's network of dealers contributed to this success?

Q: What exactly is a FleetBoss dealer?

A: A FleetBoss dealer is an independent business person marketing state of the art GPS Fleet Management equipment and software within a local territory. They are trained to aid companies in realizing the full potential of their fleet vehicles while dramatically reducing liability. They carry a suite of GPS solutions designed to meet a wide range of client needs. All FleetBoss Authorized Dealers are trained and supported by FleetBoss.


Q: Why should someone consider becoming a FleetBoss dealer? Can the relationship be a profitable one?

A: FleetBoss dealers are trained to recognize the needs of clients and supply them with the tools to improve their efficiency, productivity and profitability. Our dealers market GPS products that generate comfortable wholesale and retail margins. Certain FleetBoss product lines also build in residual income that will continue for years after the initial sale. Due to the popularity of the GPS solutions we provide, the sales from referrals become a major source of income for our dealers over time.


Q: Are there certain qualifications someone must possess to be considered as a FleetBoss dealer candidate?

A: The best candidates for our FleetBoss Dealer program are those with direct sales experience in a business to business environment. Even better, are those persons who currently own a business that services clients who have fleet vehicles of their own. If someone is willing to learn from a team that has experienced a high degree of success in the GPS market, and if they are ready to sell products that are on the cutting edge of technology and fleet management, then they should talk to us about becoming a dealer.
